Free Vacation Activities in Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association’s new promotion, the Free for All, is a way to show visitors to this premier Colorado area how many fun and interesting things there are to do that are no-cost. With lodging in the area starting at only $89 per night and tons of free things to do, there’s no reason vacationers can’t enjoy the great outdoors and Colorado without breaking the bank.

The Free for All promotion is designed to point out only those activities that are free. These include things like enjoying activities on the Roaring Fork River and the Colorado River, other outdoor activities, free jazz concerts and activities designed to teach about the Western heritage of the area. Adventure, history and music are just some of the things visitors to this mountain resort area can enjoy gratis this summer.

Some of the free things to enjoy in Glenwood Springs include hiking through the White River National Forest, floating down the Colorado River, kayaking at the Glenwood Whitewater Park and bicycling on the 16-mile bike trail that runs along the river through Glenwood Canyon. For those with more endurance, a 40-mile trail, the Rio Grande, runs through Woody Creek all the way to Aspen.

For those who want to interact with wildlife this summer, you can observe them from the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Trail. Fly-fishing is a popular summer activity on the Roaring Fork River, and for those who don’t want to fish but want to observe them instead, you can visit the Mitchell Creek fish hatchery and feed the trout.
Wednesday nights feature free jazz concerts outdoors, and Friday nights feature Friday Night Flicks that run through August where you can lounge on the lawn and watch movies outdoors. For history buffs, Doc Holliday’s memorial rests in the Linwood Cemetery, and self-guided walking tours through the history-rich area are popular.
For free scheduled events, things like free train rides that teach train safety will be offered on June 12th. An annual vintage car show at the MG Rallye is scheduled June 13th and 14th. And the Strawberry Days, Colorado’s oldest festival, takes place June 19th through 21st where free strawberries with ice cream is available, as well as a craft show, a parade, and more.

On July 4th you can enjoy fireworks, and in August a classic car show is held on the August 1st and 2nd. On the 15th and 16th, you can enjoy Devereux cup polo matches and even meet the Hotel Colorado Polo Team.

Free buses transport guests throughout Glenwood Springs, which is located 165 miles from Denver, through the scenic Rocky Mountains.
