Jenni Gaherty Honored

Recently, Jenni Gaherty, director of sales and marketing at The JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek, has been honored by the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association.

The JW Marriot is happy to announce that Ms. Gaherty has been awarded with the Mary Mitchell Award for Employee of the Year in a Supervisory Position in Sales and Marketing form the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association. The Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association has more than 470 members and represents around 40,000 hotel rooms within Denver.

Convention Bureaus New Name: Visit Denver

For quite a long time Denver’s tourism and marketing agency has had several different names, for about 99 years in fact. Some of the names that you may have heard it referred to as over the years includes The Denver Tourist and Publicity Bureau a long with many others. However more recently it has been called the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. States Bureau president Richard Scarf has gone on record as saying, “It’s a mouthful of name that everyone from the Mayor to our own Board of Directors has trouble remembering and saying.”

Over the years many cities including New York have decide to change the name of this department, opting for an easier to remember and say moniker. In order to come up with a viable solution to the name, the Board has conducted many a focus group and studies in order to come up with and try out new names.

On November 13th, 2008 at the 99th annual bureau’s meeting, a new name was official unveiled. The new name will be: VISIT DENVER, The Convention & Visitors Bureau. This will officially act as the new moniker for Denver’s tourism and market agency.

Hyatt Hotels Offers Natura Water

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts have announced a new agreement with Natura Water Inc. that will allow them the ability to offer guests an environmentally friendly and responsible option for drinking water. This offers guests the ability to choose to utilize this healthy, safe form of drinking water without having to utilize bottled water. The Hyatt is the first hotel to implement Natura technology into all of their hotels nationwide. After several successful tests runs, the Hyatt will be offering their environmentally friendly alternative to bottled water in all of their Hotels in North America that are considered to be full-service.

“At Hyatt, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment wherever possible by reducing waste and consumption,” said Brigitta Witt, vice president, environmental affairs for Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.

With the technology that Natura has provided in terms of water purification, the Hyatt is well on the way to being the ultimate choice for people that are worried about their drinking water and consumption of plastic water bottles.

Denver Arts Week

Visit Denver the week of November 14 – 22, 2008 for a cultural learning fest. There will be over 150 events at seven districts out and about Denver. This includes over a dozen of museums and theaters.

Denver Museums at Night

The week begins with free admission between the hours of 5pm and 10pm on Friday, November 14th, to many of the Denver museums. There will be lantern tours, jazz, and a large variety of family oriented activities. There will even be free parking at the Cherry Creek Shopping Center with shuttles to the museums.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science will host a event showing off the polar scientists and explorers at the iciest, remote regions of the planet. There will be a piece of ice over a eighth of a million years old, extreme weather gear to try on, and more.

Denver: One and a Half Centuries

November 22 will mark the large party celebrating the Mile High City’s 150th birthday. Many of the cultures spots of Denver will be offering free admission and a free slice of birthday cake. Visit the Denver Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and Center for Performing Arts, the Colorado History Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

There are plenty of fun events going on, so be sure to visit Denver this November.

Brian Weiskittel Joins Silvertree Properties

Silvertree Properties, based out of Snowmass Village in Colorado, is proudly welcoming Brian Weiskittel as their national sales manager for the Silvertree Hotel. Weiskittel will be responsible for managing the sales for larger groups at the hotel. He brings a wealth of experience and know how from previous positions on the East Coast, allowing him to focus specifically on the Washington D.C. market, which has a drawn out history of booking Snowmass Village and the Silvertree Hotel.

Before Weiskittel joined the Silvertree Hotel, he was the executive sales manager at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in National Harbor, Md., which is the largest conference hotel on the entire East Coast. Here, he was in charge of managing sales for groups of 200 persons or less. He also spent time working as a sales manager for Marriot International, as well as a sales manager at Marriot’s International mid-Atlantic regional sales office.

Brian Weiskittel was originally from Cincinnati, and his dream was always to move to Colorado. He spent four years in the Washington D.C. area with his wife before calling Colorado their new home. Brian enjoys playing basketball, fishing, watching football, and skiing in his free time when he is not working for the Silvertree Hotel.
