Grand Hyatt Denver in Top Shape for DNC

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Its been 100 years since the last Democratic National Convention was held in Denver, Colorado.  In 1908 the convention was held at the Denver Auditorium Arena.  The delegates  nominated William Jennings Bryan of Nebraska for President, and was ultimately defeated by William Howard Taft in the Presidential Election.

Democratic National Convention organizers expect attendance for the 2008 convention to reach  over 35,000 people. The number includes politicians, media and delegates from across the U.S. The convention is not open to the public.

GRAND HYATT DENVER STAFF PREPARES FOR UNUSUALLY “TALL” ORDERS FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

As the staff of the AAA Four Diamond award-winning Grand Hyatt Denver makes it final preparation for the August 25-28 Democratic National Convention, they are placing their orders and anticipating their needs to service a completely “full-house” with non-stop festivities for five days and five nights.  Below are just some of the numbers they can expect:

· 38,000 plates to be washed

· 24,000 hors d’ouevres to be prepared

· 28,000 desserts to be made

· 50,000 pieces of glassware to be used

· 55,000 pieces of silverware to be polished

· 70,000 pounds of linen to be laundered

Grand Hyatt Denver, host to the Democratic National Convention’s Colorado delegation, is in the completion stages of a $3.9 million renovation of six of its premier suites, as well as the Grand Club, with each three-room unit seeing more than $350,000 in upgrades.  To answer today’s concern for the environment, the Grand Hyatt design team insured that the accommodations are fully equipped with the most up-to-date and technologically savvy energy saving devices.  Structurally, each suite was completely re-engineered with this goal in mind, achieving it with reconfigured walls and ceilings that capture and contain air to maintain rooms at a proper temperature with minimal energy consumption.  Even the elevators that deliver hotel guests to the top floors where these suites are housed have been re-tooled for efficiency and speed of service.

Grand Hyatt offers the renowned 38th floor Pinnacle Club with floor to ceiling windows that showcase the entire Rocky Mountain Front Range as well as the Mile High City skyline.  Grand Hyatt chefs have created custom “green” menus using local products and produce for the round-the-clock events taking place there.

The 512-room Grand Hyatt Denver is located in the heart of the business and financial district.  It is one block from the Sixteenth Street Mall and walking distance to the some of the best attractions.  For additional information or reservations, visit the Grand Hyatt Denver members page.
